Down Shift – Cardio Packtalk is now subscription based.

Cardio, one of the leaders in motorcycle helmet to helmet and helmet to device communications has made a MAJOR change to how their product works.

The Bluetooth communications and intercom maker now has “Packtalk Custom” to allow you to “customize” the way you connect. The device itself sells for about $250US.

So, what do you get out of the box?  The ability to connect to nothing.  You must subscribe to the Silver Package to connect to your phone OR navigation system, NOT BOTH.

Subscribing to the silver package for $3 dollars per month gets you:

  • Music sharing
  • Three audio profiles
  • Speed dial

Subscribing to the gold package for $5 dollars a month allows you to “expand your capabilities with Bluetooth intercom and a 2nd device”.  The full gold package gives you:

  • Universal Bluetooth Intercom (to allow you to connect to other brands of intercom)
  • Bluetooth bridge
  • Second channel connection (allows you to connect an additional device – without it, you can only have your mobile phone OR sat-nav OR bike’s dash).
  • Music sharing
  • Three audio profiles
  • Speed dial

Subscribing to the Platinum package for $7 dollars a month enables:

  • Voice commands
  • Eco mode (up to 20% longer operation)
  • Universal Bluetooth Intercom
  • Bluetooth bridge
  • Second channel connection
  • Music sharing
  • Three audio profiles
  • Speed dial

My Take – WOW, why would I pay $250 dollars for something that I cannot use out of the box?  I will not be purchasing this device that is for sure.  IN FACT, I THINK THIS IS STUPID!

While I am sure that there are people who will do this, I would hope the vast majority of people will go to other brands.  We should not have to pay additional fees to be able to use the product we just bought. As is, you will need to pay $5 a month just to use what I consider basic features.

Ride two up…. an extra $7 per month to be able to talk with your passenger and do the normal stuff like phone and nav.

This subscription thing is a trend I have been seeing in other areas including cars and trucks and I hope that people are smart enough to not buy into this or otherwise it might spread.

I can easily imagine a day where if you wanted 5th gear you would have to pay a fee.

Up Shift – International Female Ride Day 2023

The 17th International Female Ride Day falls on May the 6th this year.

For 16 years the IFRD has “shined a spotlight on women riders and females in the motorsports arena!”

Nearly 20% of riders are women and that number has been growing over the years and I do not expect that growth to end anytime soon. Coming out of the pandemic more people and especially women are feeling empowered to do the things that they really want.

The goals of the event are:

  • Highlight the number of women who ride.
  • Encourage other women to take up the activity.
  • Raise awareness about women’s equality in motorsports.
  • Celebrate women’s advancement in motorsports and powersports.
  • Ride for accelerated gender parity.

My Take: Anything that gets folks out and riding is a great thing!  That this team has been encouraging women to mount up and ride is just awesome.  I hope that we can grow the number of women riding from 20% to 30% in the next few years.

Ride on, Ride Safe

The DawgHouse Motorcycle Radio…The #1 Motorcycle Show in the US

This week on the show #561 we have MotoAmerica Super Sport Motorcycle Champion Bobby Fong. We discuss his move up to superbike, what is going on during quarantine and general BS.

Mat Mladin makes the news but not in a good way.

When oh when will the motorcycle racing start.

motoamerica-logo

If you have listened to our DawgHouse Motorcycle Radio podcast you would have heard us rant about MotoAmerica. Not so much the racing but the fact that it is so hard to see!

It was on the BEIN network and BEIN just did not have much access to American households.

THAT HAS ALL CHANGED FOR 2019!

MotoAmerica has reached a deal Fox Sports 2, available on almost all cable packages, nearly 57 million home! Fox Sports 2 will offer all 10 rounds Super Bike racing live or same day. Each race will be rerun within 7 days. That is a big upgrade over last year.

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!!

NBC Sports Network is going present “Inside MotoAmerica” with 11 shows of race highlights and features from the MotoAmerica.

MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey stated…. “We’d like to thank NBC Sports for their interest in the MotoAmerica Series and we can’t wait to showcase our racing, personalities and MotoAmerica lifestyle to our fans, both new and established, with a little different flair. We know the shows will be well-received by our fans, our teams, sponsors and racers, and we’re excited to get the season started.”

Inside MotoAmerica will premier Saturday April 13 at 11PM.

BUT WAIT …. EVEN MORE!!!

If you have cut the cable and don’t have access to Fox Sports 2 you can still get all the races!

MotoAmerica Live + is the series live streaming package. If you have internet access you now have race access.

MotoAmerica Live + will provide you with all 10 rounds of the MotoAmerica series plus MA-LiveLogo-vertical-570x356the practice sessions, the qualifying sessions and the races in all five classes. Plus, features, interviews and more in a package that will provide fans with all the on-and off-track action.

If MotoAmerica Live + interests you… The annual package will be available for purchase for a pre-sale price of $49.95 through March 31. After March 31, the season pass will be available for $69.95 with single-event (weekend) packages available for $9.95.

We, at the DawgHouse Motorcycle Radio, have been preaching for a long time the need for this kind of change for fans to have more access. We are on board with the changes and are looking forward to the season.

The first race this year is April 6th from Road Atlanta.

I think the racing in Super Bike in 2019 is going to be AWESOME, but the series NEEDS YOU to step up. Set your DVR or buy the package and watch the races!!!

In August by buddy Phil and I, representing the DawgHouse Motorcycle Radio show, attended the MotoAmerica race at Pittsburgh International Race (PittRace) complex. This was our second MotoAmerica race for the year, we attended the race at Virginia International Raceway a few months earlier.

ijustwant2ride.comWe parked about as far away from the action as possible, just the luck of the draw. But during the long walk we did see a lot of vehicles from out of state (Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Minnesota to name a few). When we did make it to the gathering we found that MotoAmerica had again set up events and activities for folks to enjoy between races. A globe of death, and stunt shows among other things were ready to go. The State of Pennsylvania even had their Motorcycle Safety team out giving away stickers and yard sign promoting motorcycle safety.

Watching the race while watching the race!

The racing facility was very nice, well laid out and easy to get from point A to point B.
Food truck were located near the viewing area and were serving some good eats. The only issue with we had with the Pittsburgh Race Complex was that there was only one place from which to watch the race, Spectator Hill.

From Spectator Hill it is possible to view about 40% of track as well as a jumbotron. You could walk and see bits and parts of the track from a few other locations but really nothing more then flashes. As far as attendance our best guess is that there were 2500-3000 people there that day. Spectator Hill was not crowded but if you doubled the number of the folks there, it would be quite well packed.

The racing, just like VIR, was great! We watch the Liquid Molly race as well as the Super Stock and Superbike races. We watched the Super Stock race from Spectator Hill and the Superbike race from the pits, the starting grid and the media center. I am not going to detail the races, that you can get from multiple sites as well as MotoAmerica.

The week leading up to the race we were not sure if were going to be issued media credentials. Phil and I (primarily Phil) got into an argument with some of the folks associated with MotoAmerica including one of the owners. Our “discussion” was about the “coverage” of the sport. Long story short, we believe that MotoAmerica is not getting the product out to enough eyeballs. We have said, on multiple occasions, that the product (racing) is very good now, that the on-site activities are good, but beIN is killing them on viewership.

We had a great time at Pittsburgh Race Complex and look forward to attending next year’s race as well!

THIS is hard to believe! Phil wants to punch his man-crush, JD Beach, in the face! Phil is upset that Jiggy Dog did not race in the Oakland Supercross. Which he would have totally won had he entered!
There is going to be a World Superbike Race in Ireland for 2019. Does that mean that they are going to drop another race or just add another stop?
Supercross finally gives us what the DawgHouse has called for, an early start to a west coast race. It was so early that Warren missed the early heats! Big P, Aaron Plessinger and Jason Anderson take care of business while Eli Tomac still struggled

The DawgHouse Motorcycle Radio…The #1 Motorcycle Show in the US

On this week’s show…

Ken is here for today only!

Phil wants to you to know about new Department of Transportation rules regarding towing trailers.  If you pull a motorcycle or car to the racetrack you might be subject to the new rules.  If you have sponsor stickers on your race bike and your trailer is 10,000 pounds you are a commercial tow and subject to the same rules as commercial haulers. If you get pulled over you might be stuck on the side of the rode until you can hire a commercial driver.

Ken is gloating about how right he was on the return of Ken Roczen to Supercross.  Phil and Warren are still not sure he will make it to race day.
