9 movies

If you are anything like me, if you can’t ride you still want to be hooked into the motorcycle life.  I took a look at all the motorcycle movies, or TV mini-series, that I am aware of and put together a list of those that I would like to watch for a first time or even a second or more time.

I know these films include some of the “tried and true” movies, not unlike a lot of other lists.  For next year I will be on the lookout for some of the not so usual suspects.

The title is linked to the film’s IMDB page.

On Any Given Sunday the Next Chapter – The film is an exploration into the pursuit of excitement, passion and life in the world of motorcycle riding. If this doesn’t scratch that two-wheeled itch over Christmas, I don’t know what will.

Easy Rider – needs no introduction. With a top-notch cast – Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson – and a moral message for us all to absorb, very few films can change your perception on life. However, this is one of them.

World’s Fastest Indian – While not 100% historically accurate it is based on the true story of Burt Munro. Burt restored a 1920s Indian and used it to set a land speed record.

The Wild One – The 1953 classic, a story of two rival motorcycle gangs in a small town. This is the movie that help create the bad biker image that can still haunt riders today. Oh and Marlon Brando on a Triumph

Being Evel – “A generation of Americans grew up worshipping self-styled hero Evel Knievel–watching him every Saturday on Wide World of Sports and buying his Ideal toys. But few knew the incredible and often complex aspects of his epic life, which, like his jumps, was sometimes glorious and sometimes disastrous.” You can read my review of the film here.

21 Days Under the SkyFour friends riding old school Harley Davidson choppers across America and the fun, trouble and adventure they find.  By old school I mean vintage Sportsters, Shovel and Knucklehead motorcycles. Their bikes have small tanks and more than a few break downs during their cross-country trip. You can read my review of the film here.

Wild HogsJohn Travolta, Tim Allen, William Macey and Martin Lawrence… do I need to say more. Campy fun about friends riding cross country!

Long Way Round – This is a 7 show TV mini-series so either spread it out over multiple days or binge it all at one time. Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s around the world adventure trek

Harley and the Davidsons – Based on the true story of how the Harley Davidson Motor Company came to be. Of course there are the literary licenses moments but the film is a fun watch.

There are hundreds of other motorcycle themed or linked movies out there.  These films are the ones that I would want to watch on a cold, snowy winter afternoon. Are you aware of any, beyond the standards, that we should watch?  If so put them in the comments below.

Really glad to see Long Way Round mentioned. They also did another, Long Way Down, heading from the top tip of Scotland all the way to the bottom of Africa.

  3. MotoADVR says:

I happened to catch Harley and the Davidsons on Amazon Prime the other day. I was quite impressed.

Yep, H & the D was recommended to me by my son-in-law, hadn’t even heard of it. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
