motorcycles_out_of_watch_parts_by_dkart71-d3fjjo2

I like art, and I like motorcycles so little motorcycles made from watch parts….got me covered!

I “found” deviantArt a few weeks ago.  There is just so much stuff on that site, it would take a year to see it all.  Now most of the stuff is less art and more like…junk but a lot of it is pretty darn good!   If you have a few minutes to kill check it out.

A search on the site for motorcycles watch parts will show you more examples then what I have posted.

Well, Discovery Channel responded to my inquiry regarding the status of their show Philly Throttle.  Reading between the lines it does not bode well for  it coming back.  I base this opinion on the fact that if they were going to air new shows in spring or early summer the new shows would be in post-production and those airdates would be tentatively penned in.  (Disclaimer, I am not an expert in TV production/scheduling but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night 🙂 )

Here is the response from Discovery:

Dear Viewer:

Thank you for contacting Discovery Channel.

We appreciate your enthusiasm regarding our programming and for taking the
time to write us.  Positive feedback such as yours is very important to us.
We want you to know we will pass your comments on to our program management
and executive producers.  Please know that each and every comment is read
and taken into consideration for future programming.

There are no new airdates available for Philly Throttle, but please
continue to visit www.discovery.com for updated information on this
program.

Thank you again for expressing interest in our programming.

Sincerely,

Viewer Relations

The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports, that in 2012, there was  a small drop in motorcycle thefts….only 46,000 bikes were stolen.

California, Florida and Texas led in thefts per state but New York City, Las Vegas and San Diego were the worst overall.  Honda was the most stolen bike followed by Suzuki.  So if you ride a Honda in New York City….lock it up!  😉

Another item of good news is that if your Honda in NYC is stolen the chance for recovery has increased.  In 2011 only 37% of stolen motorcycles were recovered, in 2012 that increased to 39%!  See the full article here

Funny video from New Zealand that shows a ram defending his turf from a guy on a motorcycle. After the bike is knocked over he attempts to “man handle” the animal but it does not help.

Now I have seen everything! Some guys (Christini Technologies and Cosention Engineering) modified a KTM 990, converting it into a two wheel drive monster.

The video gives you a peek under the skin of the bike to show you how it works and then …. A two wheel burnout!

look-twice-for-bikes-244x300As I have mentioned before, Fox News must have a motorcyclists/biker on their web staff.  They have published an interesting but misnamed article regarding why auto drivers do not see motorcycles.

Titled Insurance Tips the article on the Fox Business website is really about how Texas Tech University psychologists studying how the human brain perceives objects, their size and motion in relation to time to impact.  The long story short is that because bikes are smaller our brains misjudge what is happening thus causing accidents.

A bit of a read but worth it in understanding if, when we are on our bikes, we are optical illusions or human miscalculations.

I do not normally look at the “Search Engine Terms” stats of the blog, but I did over the weekend.  Looking at that stat I noticed I have received more than a few searches looking for the status of the show Philly Throttle.  The typical search term was “has Philly Throttle been cancelled?” or something similar. Based on those inquires, I looked around a bit myself and, as I noted in this post, found no updates on the shows status.

During my “look around” I found a link on the Discovery Channels webpage for “Viewer Relations”.  I jumped in that rabbit hole and ended up making the following comment/question:

“First, THANK YOU for all the motorcycle related programing!  Your network has done wonders for the motorcycling world. I run a motorcycle related blog (ijustwant2ride.wordpress.com) on which I occasionally comment on and review motorcycle related TV.

I wrote a piece about your show Philly Throttle earlier in the year and I have received more than a few pokes about the status of the show.  Can you tell me if Philly Throttle has been renewed or cancelled?  If it has been renewed is there a time schedule for airing the new season?

Thanks in advance

Warren Massey”

After posting the comment/question, their conformation screen stated that they attempt to respond within one week of receiving the inquire.  So here’s hoping we will get an answer to the question soon!

bmw motorcycleIf you own a BMW F800S or F800ST built 2007-2009 you should know that National Highway Transportation Administration has issued a recall.

The recall is due to “incorrect tolerances, the rear wheel drive bearing and rear axle may wear”.  The bearing and axle ware, due to the bad tolerances, could increase the risk of a crash.  If you have one of these motorcycles you can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.

Apparently Harley is still having issues with 2014 clutches.

In addition to the issues recalled earlier in the year (see this post) the Motor Company has issued recalls for 2,886 of its 2014 Trike (FLHTCUTG), CVO Breakout (FXSBE), and CVO Softail Deluxe (FLSTNSE) motorcycles due to being assembled with incorrect clutch plates.

Harley says “if the clutch does not disengage, the rider may have difficulty slowing or stopping the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash”.

If you have one of these bikes please contact your local dealer or 1-800-258-2464.
